Brakes for Snakes is a not-for-profit organization tasked with promoting awareness of wildlife conservation. In particular, we wish to call attention to the dangers of roads and vehicle traffic for wildlife.
Our goal is to facilitate outreach by offering educational materials to individuals and groups interested in wildlife conservation. We particularly encourage individuals to display and distribute educational materials such as stickers and signs to encourage motorists and others to avoid killing wildlife either on accident or purposely.
The materials and associated costs of this organization are currently supported by a contribution of royalties from sales of the books The Amphibians of Tennessee and The Reptiles of Tennessee. Though we are not yet a 501(c)(3) organization, donations are greatly appreciated and every cent will be used to print and distribute educational materials.
DOR stands for “Dead on Road,” a term used by wildlife enthusiasts to describe a sighting of an animal that has been killed by vehicular traffic. Unfortunately, this is one of the most common ways rare species of amphibians and reptiles are found. While we cannot remove this threat, we hope to reduce the loss of life on roads by promoting awareness.
We accept donations for stickers, with a minimum of $2 per sticker. You may donate through Paypal below, and provide an address where you would like your sticker(s) sent. Please specify round or square, Watch for Wildlife or Brakes for Snakes (or both). Order in whatever numbers or combinations you would like. Each sticker costs us $0.54, plus shipping. The remaining donation will be used to send free stickers to organizations such as schools. Thanks for your support!
